This Singapore Bicentennial stamp issue marks the 200th anniversary of Stamford Raffles' arrival in Singapore. However, the nation's story did not start in 1819; it started more than 700 years ago. 2019 is a time to commemorate and appreciate the historical events, cast of contributors and communities that shaped the nation's evolution. The stamps feature a tapestry of Singapore's rich and varied history, tracking Singapore's story from settlement to nationhood – the establishment of Kingdom of Singapura by Sang Nila Utama in the 13th century (1st Local), followed by key milestones including the arrival of the British in Singapore (2nd Local, 40c and 50c), World War II (60c), Emergency during pre-independence days (70c), Singapore's independence in 1965 (90c) to the flourishing Singapore today (S$1.15), before ending with a vision of how Singapore's future will look (S$1.30).
