The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, was originally scheduled to take place in 2020. It was however postponed due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, making it the first edition to be postponed in the Olympics' centuries-long history. Finally, after a year, the Games finally takes place from 23 Jul to 8 Aug 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Covid-19, though, portends a Games with an atmosphere quite different from others before. New health and safety protocols may dampen celebrations or hamper alliance-building, but what is certain is that the long-standing Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship will prevail. Commemorating the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, this stamp issue features some of the sports that Singapore athletes will be participating – swimming (1st Local), shooting (2nd Local), sailing (70c), diving (80c), badminton (90c) and table tennis (S$1.40).
