The story of Medicine in Singapore begins with the nation's flagship hospital, the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), with a rich history tracing back to 1821.  It was originally a wooden shed built in the cantonment for military troops, and has evolved to take care of the community. As Singapore's oldest hospital, the SGH mirrors the growth of public healthcare in Singapore, a system known internationally for its excellence and for serving its people regardless of their station in life. Celebrating SGH's bicentennial as well as 200 years of healthcare in Singapore, this stamp issue features iconic medical buildings on SGH Campus – King Edward II Hall (1st Local), Bowyer Block (70c), School of Nursing (90c) and College of Medicine Building (S$1.40).
