The Singapore Prison Service (SPS) has come a long way from the old days when prison inmates were housed in repurposed buildings like old houses and abandoned schools. Institutionalised in 1946, SPS celebrates its heritage from a custodial agency to a leading correctional agency to build a safer Singapore, veering away from a penal philosophy based on punishment towards one based on rehabilitation. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the SPS in 2021, this set of four sombre looking, modern stamps features how SPS has come, with Changi Prison, Kaki Bukit Centre as well as other prison complexes in their backgrounds. The subtle glow in the sky at the top left-hand corner of each stamp brings the message that with hope, there can be a new beginning.
