As approved by the United Nations General Assembly, 1992 was designated as the International Space Year. It was a year-long, worldwide celebration of space cooperation and discovery. With the theme "Mission to Planet Earth", 29 national space agencies and 10 international organisations took part in activities to promote space exploration and the use of sustainable technology on Earth. International Space Year conferences were held regularly in many nations. Commemorative stamps were also issued by the postal authority of some nations to commemorate the year, such as Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, China, Costa Rica, Djibouti, Guyana, Japan, Kuwait, Morocco, Maldives, Malawi, Pakistan, Russia, Senegal, Tanzania, and Saint Vincent and The Grenadines.
