The United Nations designated 1999 as the International Year of Older Persons (IYOP) to foster international awareness of the importance of the role of senior citizens in society and the need for intergenerational respect and support. This stamp issue by Pos Malaysia is to commemorate IYOP, and it consists of two stamps. The first stamp depicts a cross section of older persons looking at the map of the world and a side profile of an old couple, while the second stamp portrays older persons looking at the map of the world for a better tomorrow. The official logo of IYOP 1999 is shown in the middle of both stamps.
