The diversity of cultures in Singapore means there is always a festival around the corner, where family and friends make the effort to gather and mark the event. The rituals may vary but there are also the customs that bind us together, which in itself is something to celebrate. This stamp issue by Singapore Post features the essence of the celebration of new starts among the different cultures in Singapore – Chinese New Year, when Chinese families gather for the all-important reunion dinner; Deepavali, a spiritual new start whereby the Indians celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil; Hari Raya Puasa, celebrating the end of the Ramadan fasting month and the start of the Eid festival; and the Gregorian Calendar New Year, marking the passing of a full year and the beginning of a new one.
