Since 1972, the National Wages Council has convened annually to deliberate and formulate wage guidelines for employers to meet the needs of businesses, workers and the economy. The Council has played a critical role in fostering harmonious tripartite relations and ensured sustainable wage growth in Singapore. Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the National Wages Council in 2022, this set of stamps takes a look at the history of the Council and its key achievements since its formation in 1972 – the inaugural 1972 National Wages Council Meeting (1st Local), its recommendation of a Flexible Wage System in 1986 (80c), its effort in uplifting lower-wage workers (90c), and its effort in developing guidelines for employers on wages and managing excess manpower in a timely manner during the Covid-19 pandemic (S$1.50).
