The origin of cheongsam dates back to decades ago. With a large number of rich merchants and tailors migrating from Shanghai to Hong Kong in the mid-20th century, women's cheongsam in Hong Kong started to gain popularity. Women's cheongsam was influenced by both traditional Chinese techniques and Western aesthetics, and this created a unique Hong Kong-style cheongsam making technique. Under the umbrella theme "Intangible Cultural Heritage", this stamp issue by Hongkong Post showcases the outstanding historical and cultural value of this craftsmanship, featuring some of the procedures in making a cheongsam, which include measuring (HK$2.00), cutting (HK$3.70), contour-pressing (HK$4.90) and stitching (HK$5.00). This stamp issue also comes with two gorgeous miniature sheets – click here to view the stamps and for more details.
