The Bangkok International Stamp Exhibition 1983, also known as BANGKOK 1983, was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 4 to 14 Aug 1983. It is the first international stamp exhibition held in an ASEAN country. To mark Singapore's participation in BANGKOK 1983, this stamp issue, adopting the stamp on stamp motif, features the following in the stamp design, with the BANGKOK 1983 logo being depicted in all the stamps.

10c – The three stamps released in 1977 to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of ASEAN, with the beautiful Equestrian Statue of King Chulalongkorn in the background.

35c – The four stamps issued in 1980 to mark the completion of the ASEAN Submarine Cable link from Indonesia to Singapore, with a map of part of Southeast Asia in the background.

S$1.00 – The four stamps issued in 1982 to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of ASEAN, with the signatures of the five ASEAN Heads of States who signed the Declaration of ASEAN Concord in the background.
