1981 has been proclaimed as the International Year of Disabled Persons by the United Nations. In recognising the importance of the year, in Singapore, a National Coordinating Committee was appointed to formulate, stimulate and coordinate plans of action for the year, and ensure that they are carried through. The guiding principle underlying the plans is the recognition that disabled persons are an integral part of the society. Marking the International Year of Disabled Persons, Singapore Post issued a set of four stamps highlighting the respective themes in the plans of action for disabled persons – The Right to Environmental Aids (10c), The Right to Social Integration (35c), The Right to Education (50c) and The Right to Work (75c).
