1986 was designated as the International Year of Peace by the United Nations. The United Nations proclaims that the peoples of the United Nations are determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and for this end to practise tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and to unite their strength to maintain international peace and security. This set of stamp issue by Singapore Post, in conjunction with the international year, depicts the nation's concern for international peace, featured via symbolic peace doves hovering over the various people of the world (10c), the ASEAN region (35c) as well as the globe (S$1.00).
