To mark Singapore's direct participation in the London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition, a set of four stamps was released, with each stamp portraying Singapore's historic links with the past. The exhibition was held at Earls Court from 6 to 14 May 1980. Using the stamp-on-stamp approach, each stamp features some of these first and old stamps in its design.

10c – The Indian half anna stamp, released on 1 Sep 1867 to coincide with the Straits Settlements assuming responsibility for their own postal affairs, with the old map of Singapore in the background.

35c – The King Edward VII $500/- stamp, once the world's highest priced postage stamps, against the old treaty of Johore and the British Colony of Singapore in the background.

S$1.00 – The King George VI $2/- stamp, one of the fifteen definitive stamps issued in 1948, with the map of the Malay Archipelago in the background.

S$2.00 – The "Raffles" $10/- stamp, one of six stamps issued in 1969 to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore, against a letter in the handwriting of Sir Stamford Raffles in the background.
