Malaysia joined the international family of Social Security in Oct 1971 when a Social Security Scheme was started in Johor Bahru as a pilot project in the country. The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), also known as Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO), was established in 1971 under the Ministry of Human Resources, with the primary function of providing social security protection to employees and their dependents through its various schemes. This set of commemorative stamps was issued to mark the setting up of the Social Security Organisation, with the three stamps in the issue featuring the emblem of SOCSO back then within two columns of symmetrical line patterns. If you have noticed the postmark, Kuala Lumpur was still part of Selangor back then, as it was the capital of Selangor from 1880 until 1978.
