1983 has been designated as the World Communications Year by the United Nations, with the aim to stimulate accelerated worldwide development of communications infrastructure and to provide an opportunity for all countries to undertake an in-depth review and analysis of their policies on communications development. Commemorating this international year, Singapore Post issued a set of stamps depicting the various devices and structures of the modern-day communication systems then – teletex services (10c), world telephone numbering plan (35c), satellite transmission (75c) and sea communications (S$1.00). The official logo of the World Communications Year 1983 is depicted on the 10c and 35c stamps, while the INFORMATICS '83 logo was depicted on the 75c and S$1.00 stamps. INFORMATICS '83 was held in Singapore in May 1983 to promote greater public awareness of the applications of computer technology in all aspects of our lives.
