A postal code system was introduced in Singapore to facilitate the sorting and delivery of postal items. The 2-digit postal code system was introduced in Singapore 1950 and was replaced by the 4-digit system in 1979 (click here for the stamp issue on 4-digit system). In Sep 1995, the 6-digit postal code system replaced the 4-digit system. With the 6-digit postal code, a unique number is assigned to each delivery point. This facilitates the sorting of mail right up to the delivery point, be it a house or an apartment block, thus allowing Singapore to cope with mail volume growth. This stamp issue, consists of two stamps, commemorates the introduction of the 6-digit system. The stamps depict the development of the postal code system from two to four to six digits (No Value Indicator) and the implementation of the 6-digit postal code system (S$2.00).
