Bamboo is a fascinating plant with a rich history and many practical uses. Bamboos are used for construction material, papermaking, household implements, crafts and as ornamental plants. Records about the use of bamboo can be found in inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells of thousands of years ago. Bamboo is considered a lucky plant that brings positive energy and is a symbol of growth, adaptability and sustainability. The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China issued this set of stamps featuring four bamboo species that are native to China – the Black Bamboo (20 fēn), Gold Filigree Bamboo (30 fēn), Buddha Belly Bamboo (40 fēn) and the Tea Shaft Bamboo (5.00 yuan).
