The National Planetarium or the Planetarium Negara is a fascinating tourist destination located on the territory of the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur. The Planetarium is an entire complex which comprises an information centre, an observation gallery, a space theatre, a park of ancient observatories, and also a space-scientific exhibition. The cinema has two big screens which demonstrate various space-scientific videos. The construction of the National Planetarium began in 1990 and was completed in 1993. A soft launch to the public began in May 1993 and it was officially opened on 7 Feb 1994 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir Mohamad. This stamp issue celebrates the official opening of the National Planetarium.
