Dinosaurs are probably the best-known prehistoric life. They first appeared during the Middle to Late Triassic Period of the Mesozoic Era, some 230 million years ago. Two groups of dinosaurs existed, the Saurischian (or lizard-hipped dinosaurs) and the Ornithischian (or bird-hipped dinosaurs) and they can be plant or meat-eaters. This set of three self-adhesive stamps was issued by Singapore Post in 1998, featuring three dinosaurs from different family groups – Pentaceratops (Late Cretaceous; plant-eaters), also known as "five-horned face"; Apatosaurus (Late Jurassic; plant-eaters), also known as "deceptive lizard"; as well as Albertosuurus (Late Cretaceous; meat-eaters), also known as Alberta lizards.

An interesting fact about this stamp issue is that at the beginning, the sheet of 15 stamps was sold both by Singapore Post's philatelic bureaus as well as via OCBC (Oversea Chinese Banking Corporation) ATMs. The sale through ATMs was eventually abandoned due to frequent jamming of these sheetlets, and the stamps were offered to collectors in the philatelic bureaus only.
