On an annual basis, to accommodate the public's need to send New Year's greeting cards, Chunghwa Post will issue New Year's Greeting postage stamps in Dec, taking the upcoming year's zodiac animal sign as the theme. Above stamps issued in Dec 2000 celebrates the Year of the Snake in 2001. Snake is the sixth sign of the Chinese zodiac and those born in the Year of the Snake are sensitive, effective, and adaptable. They often exhibit positive traits such as being amiable, even-tempered, and having a cool and calm exterior. The design of the two stamps in this issue is based on the work of Mr. Lin Chun-liang, who won a competition for drawing the animals of the Chinese zodiac.
