On 17 May 2015, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) celebrated its 150 years since signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the establishment of the International Telegraph Union. Since 1865, ITU has been at the centre of advances in communications – from telegraphy through to the modern world of satellites, mobile phones and the Internet. The most common method of long-distance communication used to be via letters carried on horseback or by ship. The growth of science and technology over the past 150 years has been fascinating; all this is part of ITU's story and history. The three stamps in this issue, celebrating the 150 years of ITU, feature the evolution of telecommunications throughout the years – the invention of the telegraph and telephone (60 sen), then radio and television (70 sen) and followed by satellite communications and the Internet (80 sen).
