The King Charles III definitive stamp issue marks a significant moment in British philately, as it introduces the first definitive stamps featuring the new monarch. Issued together with the four non-denominated stamps is a single international-rate stamp, which also features a portrait of King Charles III, adapted from the effigy created by Martin Jennings for UK coinage. This stamp is issued to align with the updated international postage rate for letters which came effect a day before the issuance of this set of definitive stamps. While this new stamp was issued for the updated tariff, existing stock featuring Queen Elizabeth II's effigy remained valid for postage to minimise environmental impact.
