The Harry Potter series is a globally popular fantasy franchise that began with a sequence of novels by J.K. Rowling, first published in 1997, and was later adapted into a series of blockbuster films. In 2023, Royal Mail issued a set of stamps to celebrate the enduring global popularity of the Wizarding World, with the design of the regular set drawing inspiration from the climactic events of the later films, in particular Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The 10-stamp regular set features a broad cast of characters, pairing figures together to reflect alliances and conflicts within the story. The stamps are described as having an “atmospheric” and darker visual tone, reflecting the mood of the later films. Bringing together a wide spectrum of characters, divided broadly between heroes and villains, the stamps feature the protagonists and allies (first row of stamps) and antagonists and opposing forces (second row of stamps). This pairing concept reinforces the narrative tension of the series, juxtaposing different factions within the Wizarding World.
