This stamp issue on critically endangered flora of Singapore highlights the rich yet fragile biodiversity of Singapore's lowland dipterocarp forests, which once covered much of the island but now survive only in small areas such as Bukit Timah and the Central Catchment. Four native plant species classified as critically endangered are featured in this issue; namely the Two-Fold Velvet Bean (Mucuna biplicata) (1st Local); Climbing Kadsura (Kadsura scandens) (80c); Tiger's Betel (Piper porphyrophyllum) (85c); and Pudau (Artocarpus kemando) (S$2.00). These plants are part of NParks' Species Recovery Programme aimed at ensuring their long-term survival. Through detailed botanical illustrations, this issue does not only serve as collectible items but also raise public awareness of conservation efforts and Singapore's natural heritage.
