A flutter of colourful wings can transform an ordinary garden into a scene of natural wonder. Sponsored under the Care-for-Nature environmental conservation programme, this stamp issue celebrates not only the beauty of butterflies but also their role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Through its lifelike artwork and conservation message, the stamps feature four butterfly species commonly found in Singapore, namely the Plain Tiger, a striking orange butterfly well known for its slow and graceful flight (20c); the Malay Lacewing, a species admired for its brilliant orange wings edged with intricate lace-like patterns (50c); the Palm King, a large forest butterfly often found resting among palm trees and shaded vegetation (75c); as well as the Banded Swallowtail, a fast-flying species recognised by its elegant black wings marked with pale bands.
This set of stamps was also issued in conjunction with Singpex '93. Held from 20 to 22 Aug 1993, this exhibition brought together philatelists, postal administrations, and exhibitors to celebrate the hobby of stamp collecting.
