Singapore's architectural heritage took centre stage in this National Monuments stamp issue by Singapore Post, which celebrates some of the nation's most treasured historic landmarks. The four multicoloured stamps feature detailed illustrations of the House of Tan Yeok Nee, one of the finest surviving examples of traditional Chinese residential architecture in Singapore and a reminder of the contributions of early Chinese pioneers (10c); the Thong Chai Building, home to the historic Chinese charitable organisation that provided free medical treatment to the community (35c); the Telok Ayer Market, an iconic Victorian-era structure that reflects Singapore's growth as a thriving trading port (50c); as well as Nagore Durgha, a unique Muslim shrine that stands as a symbol of Singapore's multicultural and religious heritage (S$1.00). Through realistic artwork and vibrant colours, the stamp designs capture the character of each monument while promoting awareness of the importance of heritage conservation.
