This stamp issue is a continuation of the earlier issue on protected mammals in Malaysia – Series I (issued on 28 May 1999) and Series II (issued on 26 Aug 2000). This third series focuses on the Yellow-Throated Marten (30 sen), Malay Weasel (30 sen), Hairy-nosed Otter (50 sen) and the Large Spotted Civet (RM1.00). These animals may not be as well-known as other Malaysian mammals, such as the elephant, tiger and tapir; they are nonetheless interesting and often unusual animals.
