In the earlier Museums & Artefacts stamp issue on 31 Aug 2013 (click here to find out more), only the museum images are visible on the stamps; the artefacts remain hidden underneath a black stripe or band at the right side of each stamp. Using thermochromic printing, when placed under the heat, it will reveal images underneath the thermionic ink. Such thermionic ink is very useful in making flat thermometers, battery testers, clothing, baby bottles and mugs; but the purpose of the ink on stamp is very puzzling. Pos Malaysia reissued the Museum & Artefacts stamps in 2014, this time without thermionic ink, hence unveiling the hidden treasures (i.e. artefacts) on each stamp.
