Steep in history, heritage and culture, this stamp issue by Pos Malaysia features some of the traditional boats in Malaysia, each serving a specific purpose of its own. Bangkong, also known as Perahu Perang or Perahu Pengayau (30 sen), is a boat that is capable of sailing across the sea. It is the war boat of the Dayak, notably used by the Sea Dayak (Iban people). The other traditional boat featured is the Lepa, also known as Lipa or Lepa-lepa. It is an indigenous ship of the Sama-Bajau people. Traditionally used as houseboats by the seagoing Sama Dilaut, modern Lepa are instead used as fishing boats and cargo vessels.
