Galloping into the Lunar New Year with energy and optimism, the New Year's Greeting stamps were released by Chunghwa Post to welcome the forthcoming Year of the Horse in 2014. Unlike many postal administrations that issue zodiac stamps during the zodiac year itself, Chunghwa Post traditionally releases its New Year's Greeting stamps in early December of the preceding year so that they can be used on seasonal mail, greetings, and festive correspondence before the Lunar New Year celebrations begin. The issue consists of two regular stamps (click here to view the stamps) and a miniature sheet (above cover). The miniature sheet features two horses galloping amidst auspicious clouds, symbolising that "all is going smoothly" in the year ahead. Set against a soft pastel-yellow background, the vigorous horses convey vitality, strength, and forward momentum, while the swirling clouds reinforce the festive and auspicious atmosphere of the Lunar New Year.
