Malaysia has a distinct multi-ethnic composition with a variety of groups professing different religious and cultural beliefs. Celebrating this diversity, Pos Malaysia issued a series of stamps featuring festival foods of the various races and ethnics in Malaysia. The series kicks off with a set of stamps on traditional Chinese festive delicacies, usually served during Chinese New Year celebration. The stamps feature the festive must-haves, such as mandarin oranges and nian gao 年糕 (85 sen); poon choi 盘菜, a dish made up of various seafood to symbolise a bountiful harvest (95 sen); as well as spring rolls, lotus root soup and prawn cuisines, plus a bowl of rice (RM1.05).
