A complete Chinese zodiac cycle takes 60 years and is made of five simple cycles of twelve years each. Twelve animal signs are assigned to each of the 12 years in combination with the five main elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. 2004 is the Year of the Wood Monkey. Those born in the Year of the Wood Monkey are resourceful and will establish good order in whatever work he or she decides to take up. Famous people born in the Year of the Monkey include Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Dickens, Mick Jagger, Elizabeth Taylor and Eleanor Roosevelt. The stamp designs are graphical illustrations of the quick witted and charming zodiac animal of the year, the ninth zodiac animal in the cycle – the Monkey.
