A zodiac cycle takes 60 years to complete and is made up of five simple cycles of 12 years each. Twelve animals are assigned to each of the 12 years, with each of the animal signs is combined with the five main elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Singapore Post's series of zodiac stamps was first released in 1996 during the Year of the Fire Rat. People born in the Year of the Fire Rat are believed to be chivalrous, dynamic, independent and very competitive. Famous people born in the Year of the Rat include Mozart and Yves St. Laurent. The stamp designs are graphical illustrations of the lively, crafty zodiac animal of the year – the Rat.
